  • Career history of new USATF COO McNees

I'm kind of warming to this guy Mike McNees, even if he got his COO gig at USATF as friendly payback for giving Doug Logan some city work back in Sarasota in 2006 after becoming acquainted with Doug's wife, Ann, when she was a Sarasota ballet promoter.

    My typically sassy report:

A revealing story about the Logans is here:

Let's hope that Mike doesn't share the fate of Jim Elias, the last COO. Elias tried to keep USATF's finances kosher. But several muckymucks, including new prez Stephanie Hightower, didn't want to lose their slush funds. So Elias gave up and left.

Here's Mike, who we hope to see on the masters circuit in 2009:

CEO stop the one sided talk about Elias. You damn well there is way more to his story than what you are projecting. Just let that whole chapter walk into the sunset. I predict a lot more will happen now in the sport due to some changes that do not include the name Hightower, Johnson, or Chaplin.

I wish McNees the best. And I hope he walks in with an open mind and not a tainted one.
