so as I prepare to wander the couple of miles down to the sports lounge to pick up my car I'm struck by one of the universe's great questions: will I be wandering again tomorrow because I had too many adult beverages for breakfast to risk driving yet again? (*groan*)

Also think it was the first time that a winning time in the 5k at the WCs was slower than both the first 5k and last 5k of the 10k... But it was a great tactical race. I loved it.

Yup, Anton was only #58 on the list.

If there's anyone else, I have no idea who it was; I was thinking it was Yifter, but in looking, I discover we made a big deal of his being No. 3 in the 10K in '73 despite not breaking 29:00 in a year when 50th was 28:33.

But he won three near-equator races that got him in.

I believe we've had at least one No. 1 ranker who did not make the world top 50 list that year!

Not reaching the A standard in two consecutive years and still ranking might be tough, but I know that with Osaka's steamy conditions, a few women in the 10,000 in 2007 didn't have the A that year (including champ Dibaba).

And the next question is--in what event did the 2007 World Champion enter the 2008 season without having yet attained the Olympic A or B standard in that event?

In quiz mode I would read it to mean without an Olympic A standard.

Is that 'c' in the title supposed to be a 'w'?

Responses may be sent c/o 'Marlow'.

edit: I'll take that as a 'yes'. 8-)

    T&FN ranked w/o "A" standard?

How many athletes, if any, are in T&F News World Rankings that did not reach the Olympic "A" standard in the last two seasons (qualifying period)?
