Home Depot Ends Program For Olympics

Home Depot Inc., citing the tough economic climate, has ended its much-ballyhooed program that gave Olympic athletes part-time jobs, flexible hours and full-time pay and benefits to help support their training.

Doug Logan does care quite a bit about this, but as the previous poster stated, economic powers outside his control will probably make that a losing battle.

Bingo. They deserve tons of credit for their past efforts, but there are far, far more important issues these days....

Jock Jail

I just had a brainstorm. This would be a federal program. An athlete's prison. Lots of jocks getting busted and going to jail these days. Why not rehab an old prison purely for the training of Olympic athletes. San Quintin would work. Move the existing prisoners up to say, Pelican Bay. Install full training facilites, diet control and medical support. Staff it with the top coaches.

Encourage more jocks to commit federal crimes then toss their butts in the exclusive "Rehabiltation Facility" where they will get the finest of training and food and none of the distractions other jocks must tolerate....like getting drunk and laid. Give em all 10 year sentences (no parole with the feds) but........any jock who medals in the Olympics will get an early out and a presidential pardon. Great incentives to perform well.

I don't think there's any jail better situated for distance training than the San Mateo County Jail, which is basically inside Pescadeo Creek County Park, which has, and connects to, almost unlimited redwood trails. This is my absolute favorite place to run. For those interested in the Merry Pranksters, it's where Ken Kesey served his sentence after turning himself upon his return from Mexico (it's also very close to the house where much of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test took place).

We've joked about setting up a training camp at the jail on many occasion while running in this park.

Shame... having worked on this, not only was everyone really nice. But man, they sure did appreciate Home Depot.
