Re: Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi - 2011

Since this thread's a few years old now - and 17 pages - I reckon it might be time to start up a new one.

    New one is here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=45871

and there are at least twenty Wallaby forwards who are very, very grateful ..

we all have our fingers crossed for Jacko, hope he makes it to London, and would love him to make the final

Methinks you could always do what Australia alway does in such circumsatnces - claim kiwis as Aussies - eg Wilding in tennis, Russell Crowe in acting (mind you given his tendencies to get in trouble many NZers are happy if you keep him).

Therefore, if you are serious about increasing Australia's standing in the world of throwing you could start claiming Valerie, Jacko, Beatrice Lovegrove and Farquar as Aussies.
But surely that Gill does not play Rugby will eventually force him to seek sanctuary among more reasonable people .... only a matter of time..

the thing I like about our throwers is ... well they are our throwers ...

I would love to claim Val and Beatrice too ... but would give credit where credit is due..

isn't that the reason Val never got selected for the All Blacks ...

First meeting of the Aussie circuit (Brisbane) is on right now. Sally Pearson ran in national 4x1 team, and just ran a speedy 100m first up. Jana Pittman ran on 4x4, and is also down for a 300m.

    Live results here: http://www.athletics.com.au/home/compet ... ve_results

    So far:
    w4x1: Aus A 44.01
    m4x1: Aus A 39.68
    w4x4: Aus A 3:34.12
    m4x4: Aus A 3:05.84
(None of those will help Aussie teams on quest for Top 16 status leading into London. I presume this isn't the only hitout planned for the squads this summer.)

    w100m: Pearson 11.25 (0.1)
    m100m: Rouge-Serret 10.34 (0.6)
m800m: James Gurr 1:47.31 (ex Seton Hall)
mHJ: Brandon Starc 2.18m (18, PR is 2.20... but was also 2.19m at 16yo)
(in case you wondering, Starc is the younger brother of 21yoAustralia test cricketer Mitchell, who had a fine afternoon dismissing several important Indian players in Perth). See:

I think this appointment is a great step forward..

too long has the AIS been dominated by people from the "top end of town" sports, ones in which we perform well on the world stage .... not enough respect has been paid to those with mass particpation ..

a middle distance runner may have no idea of what it takes to get to the top, but things look good for the City to Surf ... does anyone know what he looks like running in a clown suit ???

I was stunned to find myself in 6th with a day to go... fell away on final day of course...

Nice warm-up for a London win perhaps (for either of us?)...
