    Goucher and Rupp win miles

Just got back from watching the UW Indoor where Goucher and Rupp ran well. Results at http://gohuskies.cstv.com/sports/c-trac ... sults.html

After enduring an interminable number of 200 heats followed by 300s, 600s, and 400s, we finally got to what I came for, the 800s and miles.

Nicole Blood was listed as running in the top heat of the 800 but showed up in the next to last one and led at 500m and won fairly handily in 2:14.10. The top heat had Jessica Smith holding on to beat Krishna Curry from UCLA in 2:10.93, Blood's time would have been 3rd.

In the men's 800 the top heat had a group from Oregon including Rupp, Withers, McGrath, and Chapa. It went out at a fair pace and Rupp was last (8th) at 200. He moved up to 5th then 4th but that was it as he finished in 1:51.33 behind McGrath (1:50.29), Primm (1:50.33), and Thornton (1:51.09). Rupp was doubling back in the mile 30 minutes later so perhaps this was just a warm up.

In the top section of the women's mile, we got to see Kara Goucher on the track along with Blood doubling back. After a slow 1000 or so, Goucher decided to move and gapped the field ultimately winning in 4:39.51 with Vaughn and Blood about 5 seconds back.

The men's mile had a good field with Rupp, Sherer, Wall, and Rohatinsky. The pace went out horribly slow the first 400 in about 70 and 800 showing up in about 2:15. Right about this point much like Goucher did, Sherer decided to move throwing in around a 54-55 second lap putting about 15 meters on the field where Rupp and Bailey were hanging on. But with 300 to go the gap started to shrink and Rupp came to the top of the stretch in reach and caught Sherer at the line in 4:10.13. Certainly not terribly impressive as a mile time, but Rupp's last 800 was around 1:54-1:55 which does look pretty good, especially after running a 1:51.x 800 30 minutes earlier.

I left at this point not seeing anyone interesting other than Yoder-Begley on the 3000m start lists but looking at the results, I see that Goucher doubled back and beat Yoder-Begley by 4.5 seconds in 9:03.47.

    UW Indoor Preview

I plan to attend the UW Indoor Preview today where some good fields (a bunch from Oregon including Rupp) are reportedly going to be running.
