Ulrey in 2nd at 3:57 is awesome as well.

But wow. German is actually younger than Webb was when he ran 3:53.

Not trying to start that game, just saying. It's awesome. Hell it's awesome if he was 21 or even 28.

Indoors? I have no idea. Not that close to the outdoor records, but not bad (WJR is 3:50.25 by Alex Kipchirchir in 2003. AJR is 3:51.3 by Jim Ryun in 1966).

Wow. This kid is going to be fun to watch. Will we be able to just enjoy him without second guessing everything he does?

That's what appears in the records section of this site. But that section has not been updated since 2005, at the latest. There's a better mark listed as the WJIR by Athletics Weekly:

3:58.60 Geoffrey Rono (KEN) 21 Jan 2006 New York (A)

But that list hasn't been updated since 2006.

I'm still looking, but I can't think offhand of any online source for World Junior Indoor Records. (Of course, they would be unofficial in any event, since the IAAF does not recognize that as a record category.)

I was skeptical of those who thought he would go under 4 in his first race back from injury; he was pretty far under even for a fast venue. Remember that he has not really been running that long; he is still 18, missed a year in HS with injury and did not start until part-way through HS.

I just had an interesting take on his going to OSU; it allows him to be out of the limelight whenever he wants (compare with UO).

Yeah, OSU seems to suit him so far!!!

Eugene certainly appreciates milers and is the greatest community in America in supporting T&F. OU is the glamour venue for runners. Still, middle-distance guys don't seem to thrive there in recent years. Take a look at OU ten deep lists and they are almost all are names from the golden ages of Duck running lore. By my count, of the 50 marks on the top 10 lists for 800m, 1500m, mile, steeple and 5k, only six have occured in the last 20 years.

The Rono mark is correct; best sourcing of indoor Junior "Records" is Ed Gordon's annual TAFWA book.
