What the hell is this all about?!

One of the most bizarre T&F stories I've read in a while:

British long jumper Jonathan Moore has flown home after injuring himself in a mysterious incident during warm-weather training in South Africa.

The 24-year-old former world youth champion jumped naked, from a height of about seven metres, off the roof of a house in Potchefstroom.

However, his fall was broken when he hit the canopy of a pick-up truck belonging to the owner of the house.

UK Athletics said it would do everything possible to help Moore.

?!?!?!

Why on earth would you jump seven metres off the roof of a house naked?! Possible explanations:
a) He was disappointed with his 7.37m jump a few days ago and felt suicidal.
b) He was high on the wacky backy again.

I hope, for his sake, that it's the latter... :shock:

You're spot on re: his knee. It seemed that after jumping 8.00/8.12w last year (his best jumps since his junior days), that he was finally getting back to his best shape. But this will probably screw his chances of ever fulfilling his potential (particularly in the TJ, which I've always felt was his better event).

there is a definite implication that there is more to this stor than the are telling !!!

UK Athletics said it would do everything possible to help Moore.

"Our primary concern is for the welfare of Jonathan and his family at this sensitive time," said a UK Athletics spokesman.

"UKA will do all they can to provide - or where necessary identify - the appropriate support to help nurse the athlete back to health."

Well, there are only a few things that generally this type of thing can be: (recreational) drugs, drink, the father/husband coming home early, or a mental health problem. I guess we'll find out which eventually.

Exactly what I was thinking. Been there, done that, once with a cast on my right leg, hopping like mad down the street naked except for my dangling blue jeans.
