He ran 3:58.4 in Modesto in '75 (says Tilastopaja; doesn't list any 1500 best)

didn't Juan Martinez run 3:37 back in early 70's?

Where did he go to HS in Dallas? Just curious.
    Not Dallas, Richardson.

It breaks the NR he set at Tyson last year, which was 3:58 and change.

    wiki has nice stat listing

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arturo_Barrios

he really was excellent in '89 setting pbs at all the standard distances - beautiful consistency

3'37.61 gives him 3'55.1 with standard conversion

IIRC, he was a sub-3:40/13:10 runner. That should place him sub-4. How far, I don't know.

It says he's Mexican on the results page. Thus, making his standing among Americans void. Unless we're talking North Americans...

    Bruce,

You're right -- Solares had a nice breakthrough last year, but this leap far outshines anything he's done before. He's now the 7th American all-time in the indoor mile.
