  • What was the biggest event in Sacramento sports history?

    http://www.sacbee.com/sports/story/1608327.html

As the capital city prepares for Armstrong's appearance in the Amgen Tour of California pro cycling race on Saturday...

FYI: Amgen is the producer of Epogen, ie EPO.

With all of the PED controversies in cycling, Amgen is an interesting sponsor for the sport. LOL.

Me, personally, being a lifelong track fan, I say Mike Carter's shotput. 30 years
from now, that may be the most memorable Sacramento sports event...

That's right up there with the Skoal's tobacco 5km. road race series they sponsored back in the mid-eighties. It lasted one go-round...

Amgen has been the sponsor for several years.

That's not it. When it happened, I'm guessing that it made the front page of virtually every newspaper in the world. (OK, every European/American paper)

It cannot be the lottery, right?

Dempsey v Gibbons for the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship, Shelby, Montana, July 4, 1923.

Garry, were they still talking about the fight when you came down to Eastern Washington? I don't suppose you would have met anyone who attended, as it was a bust.

(That's three & four edits, anybody see a full house?)

You might want to check that date . . .

                      Back to the original question:
                      Lakers 112
                      Kings 106
                      6/2/2002

Might not have turned out in Sacto's favor, but when else in
Sacramento have sporting event tickets been scalped for $200 for the worst seats in the house?

ps--the Dempsey match is, of course, the incident for which I was trolling
