  • Bolt strolls easy 46.35s over 400m in first outing for '09

The triple Olympic gold medalist today clocked a very easy 46.35s over 400 metres at the Camperdown Classic at Stadium East in Kingston, less than 20 hours after he was named Jamaica's Sportsman of the Year for 2008.

Bolt ran in the third of three 400m heats and had the fastest time overall.

Olympic semi-finalist Ricardo Chambers won Heat 2 but his time was not among the top three, even though he dominated his heat and won easily.

Bolt cruised the first 200m of his race and then literally jogged home occasionally looking over his left shoulder to see where the rest of the field was. Flat out he is in 45-low shape and looks a bit bigger and perhaps stronger than he was last year.

Prior to the start of the race his manager Norman Peart told me he wasnt sure what condition Bolt was in. I get the feeling he feels that the demands on Bolt have in some way eaten into his preparation time for this season.

However, based on what he did today he seems destined for another fantastic season.

The promising Yohan Blake was second overall in 46.88s and looked pretty decent too. He finished second in Bolt's heat.

I did not get all the other times from the 400m time trials because I left the meet before the official results were announced.

But Bolt looks good for another stellar season.

Marlow, I think we shoud stick to this page by Shearer. I went on your paging hoping to read your personal comments, but you just posted a link to a report done by an intern in the AP office (was pretty uninsightful). Shearer has outlined some pretty good issues we can discuss. So let me know what you think.

I think Marlow's point was simply that there was already a thread open on this subject--Shearer could have simply added his comments to that thread, rather than start another one on the same race.

And I think my point is: The damage is aleady done so we colud consider adding our comments to shearer's thread despite it being opened after an original thread obout the same topic, this given the insights posted by shearer. I am just seeking the same thing as you (to consolidate all the threads).
