  • Euro Indoors: w400 semi-finals

Just about to get underway. There was a 51.x clocking in the first round so the event may be a bit better than imagined.

Pyhyda wins the first semi. Safonova in 2nd but was being treated for something before the race started but I don't know what for.

There's a bit of controversy as the organisers have put two people from the same country (Ireland) in the same semi-final where the rules state that where possible they should be in different heats.

          Very impressive run by Krivoshapka.

The commentators got it wrong it wasn't Safronova, it was Lustigova from the womens 1500m previously on track.

Hoorah Donna Fraser in the final !!

The Russians will dominate though, interesting to see how Krivoshapka has come from nowhere, i don't think i have heard of her before the winter season.

Krivoshapka of Russia very impressive and very clearly the favourite, winning in 51.59.

Am so happy to see Donna Fraser get through to the final!

                Results of the 2nd semi-final:

                1 1198 Krivoshapka, Antonina RUS 51.59 Q
                2 1189 Antyukh, Natalya RUS 52.90 Q
                3 1075 Fraser, Donna GBR 53.59 Q
                4 1104 Andrews, Marian IRL 53.92 PB
                5 1109 Furlong, Brona IRL 53.96
                6 1057 Behi, Symphora FRA 54.81

Strength has never been Donna Fraser's best point, and I wondered how she'd manage the two heats in one day but she managed to hang on pretty well didn't she?

I disagree with that. She's FOREVER doubling up (often at 200/400) in UK Champs...I thought she'd handle the 2 rounds in one day much better than she actually did

                    1 1198 Krivoshapka, Antonina RUS 51.18
                    2 1250 Pyhyda, Nataliya UKR 51.44 PB
                    3 1204 Safonova, Darya RUS 51.85 PB
                    4 1189 Antyukh, Natalya RUS 52.37 SB
                    5 1131 Reina, Daniela ITA 53.11 SB
                    6 1075 Fraser, Donna GBR 53.58

23.12 split a bit fast even for Krivoshapka.

Tried to do a Nicola Sanders there, but unfortunately for her she's not in that sort of class yet.

A very aggressive runner IMO and may need to try and run more fluently to improve, she just doesn't seem to flow around the track like the business end 400m runners do.
