  • Webb at World XC Championships?

Does anyone know if Alan Webb plans to compete at the World Cross Country Championship now that he has made the US team for it?

The World Cross Country Championships are on March 20th. Is this to late in the year for a miler to be training for and racing at 12k over grass? If Alan plans on running the 5k, I would say no but how about for the 1500?

    Thoughts?

Maybe Webb's best event might be the 5k anyway. He looked pretty good last Sunday against all those distance guys. I wonder if he's thought of this ?

My thoughts as well. I think it may be down the road but I see now harm at staying at the mile this year or even for a few more. He is still very young.

According to his interview on RW daily, that's up in the air.

                http://www.runnersworld.com/home/0,1300 ... WS,FF.html

"On whether he'll go to World Cross Country in Belgium: "This is my first U.S. national team, so I'd love to go. But running the 12K isn't exactly my thing. I'm going to wait and see what happens with the 4k and see if anybody drops off the team and make a decision after that. The World Cross Country is at the end of March and that's getting closer and closer to the (outdoor) track season." "

Ask John Walker or Steve Ovett.

When were the World Cross Championships held back in Walker and Ovett's day. Was it as late as March 20th? For some reason (and I really am not sure) I was thinking it was in late ovemeber back then. But I may be wrong.

WXC has been in March since at least the early 70s.

Maybe we will actually see a fast US mile time at Tyson this weekend. I know Lunn will break four, but by how many seconds. A 3:55 mile would be great.

It will be very intersting to see what type of mile speed Webb has retained while doing his distance base (i.e. 12k Cross Country training).

His 8:01 3000m at Johnson City a few weeks back didn't reveal much.

I also agree that 3:55 mile from Lunn would be very encouraging. Especially if he was battling Webb at the end to do it. But don't hold your breath.
