Claye goes 16.80 on the penultimate jump, then..... TAYLOR!!! 16.98!!!

If I am reading correctly, Taylor sets a US Junior record, while Claye moves to =3 a-T USJr

wow... and on a regular, non-elevated runway

USATF (unlike the IAAF, or records recognized by T&FN) won't ratify it as an AJR, because there's a roof overhead. 19th-century thinking lives!

Claye is an even TRUER freshman, given that he graduated in December from high school and should by all rights still be prepping for the prom

                  aren't there separate AJRi & out ?

if not, you can't have encapsulating ones'

                  16.98i doesn't = a ?16.97 ( - 1.5 )

There is no such thing as an indoor AJR.

It's not a recognized category of records. There are no official IAAF World Indoor Junior Records either. WJR's and AJR's may be listed as such by T&FN and others, but they're not official records.

if they're junior & they ran indoors & iaaf listed them on their indoor overall list ( as an AJRi woud inevitably be good enough to get on ) that's good enough provenance

You just contradicted yourself. If the 'Bible of the Sport' beatifies them as records - they BE records!
