    T&FN formchart

    1. Galen Rupp (Oregon) Sr
    2. Michael Coe (Cal) So
    3. Dorian Ulrey (Arkansas) Jr
    4. Hassan Mead (Minnesota) Jr
    5. Shawn Forrest' (Arkansas) Sr
    6. Elliott Heath (Stanford) Fr
    7. John Kosgei' (Oklahoma St) Jr
    8. Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott' (Oregon) Sr
    9. Patrick Smyth (Notre Dame) Sr
    10. Chris Rombough (Minnesota) Jr

Surprising to me that T&FN would have Ulrey this high in the 3000m as presumably his 4th race of the meet (assuming you have him anchoring the Hogs' DMR for them to be able to win). I can't think of anyone to run that triple nearly this effectively. I know Gabe tried it in either 2000 or 2001, but he may have eked a point or two. Mile prelims, DMR final, Mile final, 3000 final is a full weekend.

Top three will all be racing this not particularly fresh.

Rupp will have already run a 5000. The DMR is right after the 5K and it would be doubtful Lannana would put him in the DMR also -but if so- he really will be tired.

Coe does have the DMR- but that is it- so he should have the freshest legs.

Ulrey might very well have completed the Mile prelim, the DMR and the Mile final before he toes the line in the 3K. A lot to ask.

The money is on Rupp, but Coe might take it. 8-)

I would say the chance of Oregon using Rupp in the DMR is exactly 0%. No feasible turn of events has him running that race.

The chart, plus the rest of the field and the races they will run (!), probably will run (?!), or might have (?) run previously:

          1. Galen Rupp (Oregon) Sr 5000 !
          2. Michael Coe (Cal) So DMR !
          3. Dorian Ulrey (Arkansas) Jr Mile heat !, DMR !, Mile final ?!
          4. Hassan Mead (Minnesota) Jr
          5. Shawn Forrest' (Arkansas) Sr 5000 !
          6. Elliott Heath (Stanford) Fr
          7. John Kosgei' (Oklahoma St) Jr
          8. Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott' (Oregon) Sr 5000 !
          9. Patrick Smyth (Notre Dame) Sr
          10. Chris Rombough (Minnesota) Jr
Matthew Centrowitz (Oregon) Mile heat !, DMR ?!, Mile final ?!
          Matt Leeder (Florida State)
          Chris Derrick (Stanford) 5000 !
          Emmanuel Bor (Alabama)

That's a lot of tired legs. Constant shifts in pace could shake up this field a lot, particularly the people with tired legs. I'd bet on at least one of the four not listed in the chart as scoring.

7 of the 14 will have run at least one previous race.

Given the nature of formcharting, you could probably make that bet on every event in every meet!

Thought I'd be the first to bump this great call on my part!

Wonder if this was planned all along, or if the non-Q for Acosta and Centro changed things.

Hard to see VL/AlSal doing something that spur of the moment with as methodical as they've been with Rupp to this point.

Centro's back in the mile, btw.

Because of the same time (rounded); if so, spared by 0.001 (4:04.720 is x.72, while .721 goes to x.73).

Rupp is human, isn't he?
Will he have have enough left.?

Coe could still steal it with presumably fresher legs.
