  • Lukasz Verzbicas better than Prefontaine as a frosh?

I know Pre is a distance god in track circles, but Lukasz has run 8:57 for 2miles,14:18 for 5k,and 4:15 for the mile as a high shool fresman indoors! nobody can take away what Pre meant to the sport, but I like the prospects for the future as well. What were Prefontaines times as a high school freshman?

Has anyone noticed before that PRE and GOD both have 3 letters? Is this only a COINCIDENCE?

Also Pre backwards is ERP which sounds like Earp as in Wyatt EARP who was sheriff of DOdGe City, which contains the word DOG which is GOD backwards?

    It boggles the mind.

"Was Prefontaine God?" anagrams to: "Safe ego-trip and now"

For future comparisons (if Verzbicas doesn't opt for triathlon):

Except that site only shows him from 10th grade on.

An early progression in T&FN had him as 5:00.0 and 10:08.0 as a frosh; the roundness of those numbers suggests they might be approximations.

                  Year-by-year had him at 10.08,6y (5.01+) his grade-9 season.

Yes, but this Neo-God is now 16 = sophomore.

As Conor Dary points out above, any notion of Verzbicas as a freshman is really nonsense. Great high school talent - no doubt, one that we will all be watching for hopefully years to come, but his age will make a bit of a mockery of class records.

15 or 16 he is the national 5k indoor record holder !

Everybody is making a big deal about his age, when in fact he is faster than any of our senior high school runners. He ran a 8:57 for 2miles,winning the nike indoor nationals! So technically if he was a soph,he is still kicking butt !

I totally agree - he is an outstanding racer. Just stop throwing his performances under the 'best freshman performance ever' umbrella, that's all.

Right. The kid's amazing--but not because he's a "freshman." Plus, of course, his 5,000 performance was significantly superior to that 2 mile time...
