    Defending NCAA champ throws 212-9 in Tempe over the weekend. The all-time top-10 list of American collegiate throwers (not a top 10 easy to get into in recent years):

    65.88 216-2 Dean Crouser (Oregon) 6/03/83
    65.36 214-5 Mike Buncic (Kentucky) 4/28/85
    65.16 213-9 Randy Matson (Texas A&M) 4/08/67
    64.98 213-2 Adam Kuehl (Arizona) 5/17/07
    64.92 213-0 John Godina (UCLA) 5/27/95
    64.89 212-10 Michael Robertson (SMU) 3/27/04
    64.86 212-9 Andy Bloom (Wake Forest) 5/22/96
    —————— Rashaud Scott (Kentucky) 3/21/09
    64.54 211-9 Scott Crowell (Iowa State) 4/02/82

    Scott's series:

      Two words: What about Randy Matson? I guess that's four words. Anyhow, what about him?

        I was just marveling. If I had to count the 10 greatest athletes of the 20th century I would have a hard time leaving him off. Scares me to think what he could have done in the NFL at nearly any position.

                  T&FN's collegiate lists terminate with the end of the collegiate season. Wilkins threw 212-6 at the AAU meet a week later in '73.

                      Scott was perhaps the most impressive collegian at the Regionals, but throwers get no love:

                      SP: 1. Scott (Ky) 62-1¼ (18.93).

                      DT: 1. Scott 216-2 (65.90) PR (CL) (6, 6 C; 2, 2 AmC)
                      (198-7, 203-7, 203-5, 207-0, 212-10 PR [CL] [=7, x AmC], 216-2)
                      (60.52, 62.06, 62.00, 63.09, 64.87, 65.90);
