  • Oregon 4 x mile record attempt at Oregon Relays

The not very secret plan is that Oregon will run a 4 x mile at the 2nd annual Oregon Relays. The link below seems to indicate it will take place at 5:25 pm under what is now labeled exhibition event.

Too bad the Ducks don't take this special group to the Penn Relays. Did Vin and DJ have a falling out? I would have thought the Ducks would have wanted the national TV exposure the meet would have brought them by running there.

Maybe they want to reward the home town fans.

What national TV exposure? You think any network would take a flyer on a race that last 16 minutes and would probably shortly be Oregon just time-trialing?

What should be happening is that USATF (even if it's a collegiate meet) should be going the Flotrack route on these major happenings, and ensuring that there's an interesting video clip that goes to all the major news outlets in hope that it'll get some play.

I seem to remember a Penn broadcast from about 5 or so years ago that had the Arkansas attempt at sub-16 4x1 mile. If I recall correctly, it was about as exciting as you would expect.

I'm fairly certain runnerspace.com will be there filming, as they do at "all" Oregon home meets.

right; but my point is that USATF should be making use of this stuff (yes, of course they should pay to get it) if they want to do modern promotion of the sport.

Does USATF even have a latest news video section to its site? If it doesn't, it can't (shouldn't) sell something to one group it does not itself carry.

I can guarantee they would have received some coverage in the Penn ESPN2 show if they ran fast. The race takes place early enough at Penn and it would have been easy enough to put together a "package" to insert into the live show.

I sure hope the race in Eugene isn't a "setup" affair where they have rabbits all over the place. I'm biased, but Penn would have been the "right" setting for a sub-16 minute attempt. Big crowd (45-50,000), good competition (at least early in the race), and National TV.

Penn's already a big black hole that sucks up more than its fair share of the nation's talent that weekend.

And the Oregon coaches like to limit travel when they can. Look at their XC racing schedule, for instance.

Vin confirms Oregon will be going after the Collegiate and American records at the Oregon Relays.

"Thus far, Oregon, OTC Elite and Auburn are the confirmed entries, with two international squads and three more collegiate teams still to be announced."

At the "Track Tuesday" meeting this evening, Lannana mentioned that one of the International squads will be from New Zealand.

I think that Oregon has the talent to break the collegiate 4 x Mile & 4 x 1500 without Rupp & to break DMR with the team that won NCAA IF Centrowitz were to run 1200 & international and/or OTC teams could push them.

They could do all three in the next three weekends, but will they try?
                            none

A NZ squad might give Oregona run for their money (PRs):

                              Willis 3:50.66 (2008)
                              Hyett 3:57.46 (2007)
                              Blincoe 3:54.40 (2003 - and 3:35.50 in 2005. 2008 bests 3:39.97/3:57.65)
                              Woolhouse 3:59.80 (2009)

Adding Providence's Kiwi Hayden Mclaren (3.57.78i) would help their cause
