  • The May T&FN Issue: What's Up With the Centerfold??

The worst quality photo I can recall, by far. All kind of mottled and splotchy. Does not on the surface look to be a just-one-copy kind of problem.

Haven't received the centerfold yet. Give us a clue who's on it.

When I think of " centerfolds ", Track & Field News is not the magazine that first comes to mind.

The printing on my copy is just fine--nothing wrong there. However, I suspect that the image has been enlarged a bit too far from a digital file--its not sharp at all and looks "pixilated."

Interesting that the whole issue is devoted to "The Glory Years of Track: The 1950s," with a centerfold of Vladimir Kuts... Nice "retro" concept...

If the picture is pixilated, then it has to be of Elwood P. Dowd. If, on the other hand, it's pixelated....

Pixelated, mottled, splotchy, whatever. Not a quality print.

Right. And gh apparently wants to blame at least one of the messengers...making fun of the fact that my understanding of technology ceased with the telegraph and daguerreotype.

Not at all! "making fun" of an amusing typo. The name Elwood P. Dowd doesn't ring a bell?

Mmmm...but Longfellow Deeds was originally accused to be pixelated by the Faulkner sisters.

I presumed it is a cartoon character...no? Was he the guy with the blunderbus who tried to shoot the wabbit?

Elwood P. Dowd:" Harvey and I sit in the bars... have a drink or two... play the juke box. And soon the faces of all the other people they turn toward mine and they smile. And they're saying, "We don't know your name, mister, but you're a very nice fella." Harvey and I warm ourselves in all these golden moments. We've entered as strangers - soon we have friends. And they come over... and they sit with us... and they drink with us... and they talk to us. They tell about the big terrible things they've done and the big wonderful things they'll do. Their hopes, and their regrets, and their loves, and their hates. All very large, because nobody ever brings anything small into a bar. And then I introduce them to Harvey... and he's bigger and grander than anything they offer me. And when they leave, they leave impressed. The same people seldom come back; but that's envy, my dear. There's a little bit of envy in the best of us. "
