Please forgive the hometown/alma mater horn tooting here, but this is actually meant to give a future heads up for the gal in the runner-up spot. True frosh Place had great CC (7th D2), indoor (4th in 5,000m. 16:44) seasons and outdoors has also timed a solo 36:09 at D3 school St. Benedicts in late March.

She's from a small farming town in Wisconsin near the Minnesota border (i.e., strong and not overraced/trained) and has some potentially great things ahead. Cut from the 10,000m/marathoner mold with a college coach (John Fulkrod) who cares about his athletes and sees her time with him as a stepping stone in her career.

Men's race was relatively slower...maybe tactical race? Not sure what the weather/wind was in Des Moines today. Nearly 70 degrees during the daytime about 250 miles north of there.
