I was in Berkeley for the meet and the men's 10,000 was a great race (the best of the day). Berkeley was cold, windy, and sunny (except for when the sun set). Cal has a great track stadium that would be excellent for the NCAA meet. They still need to fix their restrooms, get a good scoreboard, and improve seating on the east side.

M-10.000m: The lead pack passed through the first mile in 4:25 and hit the two-mile pole at 8:49. At the halfway mark, Chelanga was still among the leaders at 13:46.

Chelanga, a two-time NCAA national runner-up, jumped out in front for the first time with just three laps remaining. He recorded back-to-back 65-second circuits before blazing a 61.05 final lap. Chelanga’s sprint to the finishing tape enabled him to hold off hard-charging Collis Birmingham, who set the Australian 10K national record with his 27:29.73 effort. Two-time U.S. Olympian Anthony Famiglietti, who had entered the evening with aspirations of breaking the American record, settled for fourth place in 27:39.68.

Looks to me like they moved Stanford's short track across the Bay for the weekend. :-)

Michael Coe breaks the CAL mile record and its previous record-holder (Torrence). Coe's time is also a collegiate and American-leading mark. Schmitz (1.56/4.19 in high school) continues showing fine form off of his 3.41,46 Mt. Sac 1.500m.

Coe's first sub-4.00 mile appears to have been the fastest sub-4 debut by an in-season US collegian outdoors; there have been a few faster debuts indoors. Coe's 3.56,18y eclipsed US # 228. Bryan Berryhill's 3.56,52 from Wanganui, NZ in january of 1999.
