  • Almost a new USA 100m High School Record

Joey Myer Almost set a new record at 10.10. Joey is from Missouri. I am proud to say that he is one of my good friends. He is only a junior

Any time somebody posits a surprise sprint mark and it ends in a 0, you can pretty much count on its being hand timing. Which means a 10.1, worth several 10ths slower.

If it was the kid from West Plains, Mo., that would be the greatest improvement in the known history of the world.

Anyone see the NYTimes had an interesting article on a high school sprinter, Bradley Sylve, from Louisiana?

In there I read the following quote.
Increasingly, schools are seeking football players who happen to be sprinters, instead of sprinters who are attempting to play football. Florida, for example, won the 2008 national championship with a freshman tailback named Jeffrey Demps, who set a national high school record at 100 meters (10.01) last June at the Olympic track trials.
                Source
Was Demps really a high schooler??

So why is that 10.01 not the record?

Huh? I don't follow. It is.

perhaps he's looking at a list of Federation records somewhere, not our version:

No offense, Friend-of-Joey-Myer-Almost, but a kid doesn't go from being an ~11.10 guy to a 10.10 guy overnight.

OK that makes sense. I was confused by the opening sentence in this thread:
Joey Myer Almost set a new record at 10.10.
That implied to me that the HS record was about 10.09. I guess it depends on your definition of almost.

In this case, I think "almost" refers to ~1 full second.
