              Could have had:

              Chelanga
              Cragg
              Dobson
              Riley
              Teg
              Vaughn
              Fernandez
              Goucher
              Chemboiywo

              in one race.

I don't see Fam's name anywhere. Rankin's running the 5K...his first at that distance?

I believe he is a rabbit for that race, from what I have read.

Flotrack interview (rabbit for 10.000m or running 1.500m):

                  http://www.flotrack.org/videos/speaker/ ... s-solinsky

Entry in 10.000m means he's rabbiting at Stanford.

I am guessing that anyone in heats 2 or 3 who would seemingly be in the heat with Teg, Chelanga, Cragg, et al, is there by choice (i.e., they would rather be in a 13:40ish than sub-13:20 race at this point in their training/fitness. It doesn't seem like the 1500m situation, where this meet has traditionally attempted to create 2 even heats.

Paying a little more attention than I did before, I guess Fernandez and Goucher might be the only two not in the strong Heat 1 that I might hope would be there.

That 13:40/13:20 difference made me think that, a la our many discussions of "what's wrong with US distance running", the mind set we need more of our distance guys to move toward is "13:20s in May, 13:05 in Europe", not "13:40 in May, 13:20s in Europe." We've been stuck in the latter mode for 30 years.

We're now told that Fernandez is not taking it easy. He's going for the AJR (13:37.91 by the Ruppster).

He'll run the 1500 at Big 12. He'll then (in theory) have the option of the 15 or the 5 at Regionals, which will, of course, dictate which event he runs at Nationals.

Even-pacing through 8.44 should take care of business for Fernandez.
