Man, check out this heat of the 400 for Saturday's Texas Invitational. I certainly won't be surprised if any of them fail to show, but mighty interesting if they do:

    Too bad it's a 400, and not a 200

Not that either Gay or Spearmon will be worried about these stats whilst competing, but...

If Gay can crack 46,00 (45,89), he'll break the 3.685 combo tie with Powell and pass Carter for third all-time (3.713-3.712). Spearmon is behind Gay by six points entering the competition.

Spearmon would have to have a rather monstrous day if Gay (who has a rather good chance of running in the 45s) were to achieve this mark, needing to stop the clock at 44,69 in order to stay tied with Gay if Gay were to PB at 45,89.

It's nothing they're losing sleep or stride patterns over, but it's interesting nevertheless how the dynamics of this race could change the all-time combo leaderboard.

I disagree. We've seen plenty of those in the past and we'll see plenty in the future. I remember Gay saying last year that any decent sprinter worth his salt should always be able to run a decent 400 when he/she is in shape. Increasingly, that seems to be the mindset of the modern sprinter. In recent years, we've seen X-man, Sanya Richards and Allyson Felix do 100/400 doubles. I'd love to see this become a more commonplace event, since I think it's much more interesting than the 100/200 double.

And the story behind the story is the competitive cold shouldered relationship of former college teammates Tyson and Wallace.

You just know they want to beat each other.

And there's other notable stuff like Willie trying to get back to form and the Baylor boys and Lionel.

I agree trackstar that's an impressive heat.

                Tabarie Henry 45.08
                Lionel Larry 45.27
                Tyson Gay 45.57

Boyd (Baylor) and Kelly Willie were in the mid to high 46s.

Betters (Baylor) was a high 46 and Spearmon was probably close to 47. He was never really in the race and didn't seem to put much effort in it. He has so much potential but just doesn't seem to fully grasp it for some reason.

Tyson looks ready for a nice comeback season. Looked strong.

A&M got a good one in Tabarie Henry out of Barton. Won't be shocked if he wins NCs next year.
