I'm happy to see a deal that brings a great deal of track to the US market however in the current US market I contend it would be better to have struck a deal at less $$$'s with ABC/ESPN that would guarantee daily highlights on Sportscenter and getting ad's SC-style promoting the coverage. Hockey gets more coverage on Versus but hardly any airtime on ESPN any more and the X Games get lots of time since they are an ESPN property in effect and if track is to stay in public conciousness it needs the respect of highlights on ESPN's networks to raise its profile.

The coverage we are set to get from NBC and Universal will be fine for the track fan who already is one but not likely to help recruit new ones.

    Albeit a sports network.

It is owned by and shares airtime with ABC, I believe.

But I see you meant ABC NBC CBS or Fox.

I thought you meant network as opposed to being shown online via Universal Sports, et al

Yea, these are considered Network TV normally.

LOL - Not quite, but its good to see the coverage. The only event I don't recall seeing in previous years is the youth championship
    Haven't you heard?

There was no track and field before Usain Bolt.

You know... JA is EASILY my second favorite track team

    BUT...

    TrackDaddy's 'bout to regulate. 8-)
when was the last time a golden league meet or the wc was on network tv?
The Golden League(previously the Golden 4) was never on network TV. It has changed cable networks over the year(Versus, ESPN and now Universal Sports)

World Champs have been on NBC a few years now with only weekend coverage. One year, they shared coverage with ESPN which showed weekday coverage.

network tv, not cable. 2003 wc in paris was last wc on network tv (abc, which was odd given that olympics was on nbc following year).

It seems like I've watched and recorded quite a few Golden League meets on TV over the last couple of years.

And WC has been on every year since 03 at least I believe.

I could be wrong about this though.

And FWIW... I was just teasing about Bolt to make a point.

Actually I believe 01in Edmonton was on TV too.

OK...has the PAL / NTSC business been straightened out with the switch to HD? Or will everything that comes from a European feed still look funny even in hi-def?

Almost all of the Universal Sports channels so far have been sub channels of the main NBC channel. Odds of anything being HD are slim and none. Even if they were to try that it would be guaranteed to be bandwidth starved HD if it was a sub channel.
What about the meets that would be on NBC?
Some of them COULD be in high def. Not normally something we know one way or the other until very close to air time. I don't remember ever seeing any Golden League meets in high def in the US.

I agree. That would be a big plus for T&F News.
