Mercury....now that's interesting. I've frequently wondered about enviromental factors/triggers.

It's hard to say when it comes to autoimmune conditions. Sometimes there is a specific trigger that can be traced with some degree of certainty, sometimes you are left scratching your head. Stress can be a factor, as well as infections and sun exposure. It runs the gamut and depends on the person and the condition. While I know more than I want to about autoimmune conditions, I don't know much about her specific condition. I do applaud her for "holding it in the road" and wish her much success. I know other athletes deal with health issues too, but her condition hits home for me.

During the 2008 Olympic Trials, there were posters on Ato Boldon's website who tried to compare the Jamaican trials to the U.S. trials, which prompted Boldon to go ballistic:

In fairness, it was only one poster making the claim and Ato even addressed him in his response...others - Jamaicans included clearly stated that there was no comaprison between the two meets. The US' was by far the better of the two.

Thanks. I hope that Richards is ready for USAT&F. Although Jamaica's rules aren't as strict as the U.S.'s, I hope that Fraser runs WCh 100.

I texted her a while back to say hello and she responded (I hugged the phone when the message arrived 8-) ). Anyway as she said in her email to you... she's not well. Her health has been a problem all year. She's not healthy. I can tell from the tone of the communications with her and her spirit.
But she's the type to grind it out. I just hope she doesnt overdo it. When it flares up she has good days and bad ones.
Hang in there Sanya and I'm praying for you to feel better...

SR has a serious, atypical, sporadic disease and almost none of the people here know enough about either the disease and her particulars with it to be able to judge whether her failures are 'normal' ones or related to her condition.

I hadn't ever read that, jc, but I was at trials last year and I'd have to agree with Ato regarding the men's 800.

As you know it had EVERTHING. :shock:

What made it even more innteresting for me and my wife is that we were sitting beside Edwin Moses' ex (wife?) who just happened to be Khadevis Robinson's sports psychologist. Really nice lady who chatted my ear off. Obviously that made it even more of a nailbiter.

Ask him this. Outside of Bolt on the men side, what did the other Jamaicans do??? Cuz as Penn proved it, that 4x100m world record was all one man!! And thats how you kill the BS!!! Last I check, the U.S. out medaled the rest of the world in the sprint events.

I just think when you have ONE good meet like JA had (yes, Beijing was one track meet) and so much of it is riding on one person... that you'd be more humble; at least until you do it again.

Demar the best race of the USA trials meet has been an 800m - so this is clearly not just about sprints - I don't know what the argument is about.

No-one in their right mind would try to compare this meet to any other. Trying to push the times argument is also ridiculous since a great meet is not defined just by times. The big BOLT v POWELL showdown was "exciting"?? It was a big, fast, bore!

No one cared about the times in that 800m although it was won in 1:44 and that was one of the greatest races I have seen in decades. A guy falling aross the line to get the A standard he needs, beating the defending champ into 4th while securing the final spot on the team, a college sophomore who didn't run high school track beating grown men on his home track at his own school to get second and a guy who is the 2nd coming of Steve Prefontaine with 800 speed winning going away in the city he lives and trains in. Oregon athletes go 1-2-3 in Track City, Oregon! You couldn't have written that better. It sounded like a soccer stadium!

No-one cared what the time was, and to be quite honest the Jamaican trials have had 2 good races - and I have seen them all - womens 100 and womens 200. Period. Men's 100 looked like a heat, 200 was a blowout joke.

You...I don't like to jump in these things...but I am tired of folks dumping on Sanya for whatever reason.

jamaican fans were bitterly cold to her at Penn, being disrespectful to by booing her as she was on the track. To my knowledge, she has ALWAYS given/shown/outright spoke of her love for her native country. Not in one intelligent persons mind can anyone question that.

The only blatant issue is that folks are bitter because the young lady IS GOOD while competing for the US. Funny how those same detractors are never so freely combatant against the likes of Donovan Bailey, Brandon Simpson (who was here today/gone tomorrow), Germain Mason, etc.

TD that was an excellent expample, that is Sandra Farmer Patrick. I've also seen the disdain trickle down to american coached athletes, as if those who've come to the US has not benefited as much or more than they've received by participating in collegiate sports, let alone going on to become world class in any professional sport.

I also find it completely hypocritical to bash the hand that feeds/so accepted you in and gave you the ability to attain a better lifestyle, but go on to bash and claim how bigger, better it is to live in your own native land....

New to those folks.....go home, we don't want or need you if that is the thanks we get. We WILL survive. At any rate, Sanya has and will always be a class act even amongst those who have done nothing but shown a great deal of jealousy and hate toward her.

And for any American complaining....she was THE only US athlete in that Olympic 400m final, w/out her we'd be watching someone else attain a medal of any color...nuff said!

Great post Knite! One thing that I'd like to add is that in Sanya's case, she moved to the U.S. as a child with her parents. What was she supposed to do, tell her parents to go on without her become she wants to stay in the motherland? :?
