  • FAST Annual out

Mine arrived today. A really good reference for US T&F, and for the retrograde, the field events have Imperial as well as metric marks. Marlow and gh are smiling. If you are not a FAST member, the book is avail from:

    Scott Davis
    4432 Snowbird Circle
    Cerritos, CA 90703

[email protected] (caveat, I havn't used this in awhile, probably still ok)

I think the book is $20.

Now, if the ATFS will send me their flyer

Haven't received mine yet, but now I am salivating. Coincidentally I DID get my ATFS flyer today. It's available 'early May' (isn't that . . . now?) for $35 - send payment to

    IAAF Publications
    17, rue Princess-Florestine
    BP 359
    MC 98007 MONACO

I imagine this info is also on the IAAF site now.

Is there an easier (i.e., on-line) way to order it (ATFS)?

ATFS is UK based (Peter Matthews edits) and the mailing address is somewhere in the midlands. They do take credit cards, so the exchange is built in. You credit card company will probably add a fee for doing nothing, but it is still cheaper than any other alternative. Unless, of course, you are buying a million US$ worth of sterling or euros

PS, the FAST annual is sent media rate, from Cerritos. Mine was mailed on 6 May, which is pretty good for parcel post. To the right coast, proably a week

My announcement is, however, from IAAF. Perhaps it's cheaper to buy it directly from Mr. Matthews?

I frown every year when the book comes out, not smile.

How can you be happy about a book about a previous season that comes out after the entire indoor season and the first two months of the outdoor season? And by the time you actaully get one, it's middle/late May and for most the school year is already over.

IMHO the book needs to be less far-reaching and add speed to its attributes. In this you-can-find-it-all-online world, this kind of delay is suicidal.

I see it more as a historical document and as such, I don't want it to be rushed out without getting all the last info and vetting some of the iffy marks. An on-line version is less useful to me as I want it printed in a an easy-to-get-at format. If I want CURRENT info, I go on-line. For past years, I go to my reference books.

In the near future I expect it WILL be available in February, vice May, but till then, I'm good.

The cost from the Brits is about the same as from IAAF (if the $35 is postpaid). I was just thinking of the conveinience that Sportsbooks Ltd provided. Also, I am not on the IAAF mailing list, so... If I get their flyer, I will probably buy from them, unless Sportsbooks gets here first.

Good point regarding the US annual. Since the US T&F, certainly at the non pro level, is a spring sport, it is not very timely. I am not horribly interested in indoor T&F (living on the left coast where there aint any meets to attend will do that to ya). So, the time lag is only a problem for the collegiate early spring season. And it did get here pretty early in May. I guess I'm just pretty easy to please

To clear up a few misconceptions about the ATFS: The organization of 250+ members worldwide is not "based in the U.K." The president is Australian, the vice-president is Swedish, and the secretary-general (Scott Davis) and treasurer (me) are Americans. Peter Matthews (U.K.) is the Annual's editor, compiling the efforts of many members and others, and the book is printed by Sportsbooks Ltd. The 2009 edition (guess who is on the cover?) is available from Sportsbooks

                  (http://www.sportsbooks.ltd.uk/book_info ... s2009.html)

for 18.95 Pounds; credit cards are accepted. Some previous editions are available from Sportsbooks and from Scott Davis. See www.atfs.org for more information.

Thanks, Marlow. You have it right. It is meant to be a complete documentation of the previous season. That is the wish of USATF and has always been what FAST has tried to accomplish. I would love to have it out earlier and we do try each year, but I will not sacrifice content for having it appear earlier.

All of this being said, the book is available from yours truly at the address Renfro listed. I will send by any method, but remember the rates have gone up just within the past week. Contact me at [email protected] for complete ordering details.
