Eaton off to a terrific start, sweeping all 5 events the first day and racking up 4309 points. Hope he's got enough left in the tank after the Pac 10's and the NCAAs to win a trip to Berlin.

Eaton's first day score today is 51 points better than his previous best this year and 83 points better than his first day effort at last year's Olympic Trials (where he finished in 5th place).

Nice article in the Thursday R-G about Ashton's great potential:

Has an athlete ever won all ten events at a decathlon, at this level?

17 feet behind the leader in the discus (although he was second-best).

True FR Ryann Krais finished with a PB 5606, (4th place behind Theisen-5986, Mcfadden-5780, Ali-5681).

Ryann Krais's mark is 3 points better than Jackie Johnson's winning mark at the PAC-10 meet in 2004, when Johnson was a true FR.

Jackie followed that up a few weeks later with a 5807 to win the NCAA Hep as a Freshman.

Men's and women's results show the Oregon Ducks earning 19 points in each event (both men and women garnered first, second and eighth places).
Terrific coaching job by the U of O's Dan Steele and his staff.

minor rant---I really hate the expression "true freshman" as if being normal is something to be pointed out as weird.

There are frosh and redshirt frosh!

krais is NOT a redshirt frosh..

her shot and javelin have improved big time, given the weight work ucla had her doing...

her 13.81 is weel behind her 13.50 and she's jumped 5'8" too, so the usa junior mark of 5678 is within her grasp..

final krais beat shana woods, who had two classes on her..

ncaa and usa junior meet should give krais two real shots at the 5678...

her long jump should improve too, as she jumped 20 in HS, yet has never done anything close to 20 in a hep..
