I'd take a triathlon Olympic Gold(and maybe a few career medals) over just making the final in an Olympic 5 or 10K any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

And if he's doing what he enjoys doing, how is it worthless?

It's an intelligent, well-thought long term plan. As I mentioned back in March he certainly has a better chance at Olympic gold as a triathlete than he would against the army of Kenyans and Ethiopians in the distance races. The value of triathlon gold at a hometown Chicago Olympics would be huge.

He and his family know what they are doing.
I know all about the other thread. My nephew was sixth in the Boston Race. Sorry, but this is new news. This latest interview implies a bigger commitment to the triathlon.

Sure it will mean more money. But it seems like such a waste of talent. Triathlons are the most boring competitions on earth. And completely worthless.

Reading this interview I really get the feeling that
Verzbicas's running career is taking a back seat to the triathlon on a long term basis.

I think his Eastern Euro mother is pushing this.
"The Olympics is our dream and we are doing everything for it." says his mother.

I suppose it all has to do with money. Personally I think it is a real waste. The triathlon has to be one of the most worthless events out there.

Instead of trying to see how great you can be in one be mediocre in three.
