But its hard to compare eras because very often what is required to be world class is different.

umm i'm only 19, so i don't remember how it was back in the 80s early 90s, can someone please inform me what was going on in regard to PED's, without me getting banned, i'm just very interested, about what happened, with the likes of the east germans, florence,ben,and other suspects, i can't remember all of them off my head

Isn't there a section in this message board that highlights certain points concerning the aforementioned question?

Certainly today's athletes are taking advantage of improved training routines and external properties such as competition surfaces, shoes and other apparel that might support psychological, as well as physical gains.

I mean, for example, what protocols were available for athletes back in the day that compensated for today's elite training entourage? Or is it really making a difference?

This forum has a "search" function. The theme of PED's has been debated throughout years and many people contributed their thoughts. Some more responsibly, some less.

Not quite correct. Posters often talk about the East Germans despite most not admitting to it, virtually none were caught and there being no names mentioned in the files found. The fact that files actually contained code names and peformances, some training and not competitions, so Berendonk had to try and work out which code was which athlete, and the fact that there arent anywhere near enough names in the files to implicate every GDR athlete, doesnt stop gh from allowing people to accuse every East German athlete that ever lived!

I've also seen posts than quite clearly accuse all Eastern Bloc athletes in the 70's 7 80's, "because they were all communist countries, so, like, we can assume that every Soviet satelite did the same"..... :roll:

You might find this NY Times link interesting, Gordon18, it has some of Pat Connolly's comments from a Senate hearing back in 89, where she accuses a high % of the American team in the 84 and 88 Olympics of being on steroids. It mentions the 75 athletes that tested positive but were never sanctioned; quotes Ashford saying she 'knew' of at least two of the seven US women gold medalists used steroids in training & has the admission & revelations from Dianne Williams, who took drugs and implicated her coach, Chuck DeBus, who coached many of the worlds best US and Jamaican sprinters : http://www.nytimes.com/1989/04/04/sport ... s/D/Doping

This other NY Time link is equally interesting, it has some of Issajenko's allegations, such as Pam Marshall faking injury tio avoid tests (she was also apparently the woman who Issajenko says drank a bottle of vinegar before a drugs test!) further allegations on DeBus, that John Smith apparently took steroids too and that he supplierd drugs to Pat Connolly when she was a competing athlete.

I suggest you check out some of the threads in the Dope Talk forum. The forum is locked, but there's still plenty of posts there to give you some insight on how things were in the past.
