Sounds like great conditions: 3241ft altitude, temperature around 80, winds 35-45mph (at least looking at weather conditions 2 hours after the men's race).

That doesn't surprise me. Fifty years ago I was a senior at Hillcrest High School in Dallas and was planning to attend Texas Tech. I had visited Lubbock in July where the weather was exactly as described above.

When my Dad was transferred to San Francisco I attended UC Berkeley. I spoke with friends who did attend Texas Tech at my 45th Reunion. They agreed that despite the weather it was and is a fine institution.
