  • Halle throws meet

Martina Hrasnova won a HT competition in Trnava today with 76.90 - NR, WL and no. 4 on the all-time list. The series was 75.16-72.32-75.78-76.90-X-X

Next weekend she is due to compete in Halle against previous WLer Anita Wlodarczyk. I presume world champ Betty Heidler will also be there.

Great result. Heidler threw over 73m at the weekend in Germany.

Some very good fieldsare assembled for Halle. In addition to women's HT with Heidler, Hrasnova and Włodarczyk, there is Abakumova, Obergfoll and Nerius in JT, Pars and Charfreitag in men's HT and Małachowski, Harting and Kovago in DT.

Will also be interesting to see what sort of shape Vieweg and de Zordo are in. With the rising form shown by young Germans all over the field I'm afraid they could be a factor in men's javelin as well...

Nesterenko hasn't competed as much as usual in the early season and had slightly disappointing discus results in the couple meets he did take part in. More of the same coming, or a return to ~70 territory with the junior implement? (Edited to note Nesterenko apparently scratched. Good junior performance by Germany's Gordon Wolf though.)

Hrasnova was only fourth with 71.60 today :?

Włodarczyk set two PBs today with 75.35 and 75.39, and also had a 74.54. Małachowski supposedly had a foul in excess of 70 meters. Overall it was a great showing by the Poles - Żaneta Glanc also won the women's DT with a PB of 62.82, with Joanna Wiśniewska second, beating Nadine Mueller and Franka Dietzsch.

I just came back from a workout, looked at the message board headings without my glasses on, mistook an "l" for an "i", and thought Gebreselassie had intentionally lost a race!

A useful 1027 points if she were to replicate that in the heptathlon.

For me i still really can't see her as much of a medal contender this year.

Still too slow in the 100m hurdles, 200m and 800m, with her high and long jumps not being good enough yet to really compensate IMO

According to this site's meet listings, Halle is supposed to be 23-24 May. Looking at the results, it seems that all 8 events (plus Jrs & youth) were held today. Will they do the whole thing over again tomorrow? It seems from the MDT results that the winds were not quite so good as the people enjoyed down here the last couple weeks (here being San Diego area). Gerd threw 63m high, and won by nearly 3m
