Were they waaaaaaay off sub-13 pace during the middle of the meet, or did the commentators get it wrong? (at around lap 7, they predicted 13:10). If the runners were still within striking distance of sub-13, then that's disappointing.

It was listed somewhere (here?) as an 'American soil' record, and I have mainly looked just here.

Naturally, Lagat's run was the fastest by an American on USA soil, nonetheless. Anthony Famiglietti's 13.11,93 at Mt. Sac last year (runner-up to Juan Luis Barrios 13.11,37) was the previous best time ever recorded in the USA by an American.

It was a great race, fastest ever in the US, and at 34 running 13:03 is not too shabby at the end of May. His WC's efforts may be better tooled this yr than his Olympic aspirations last yr as he didn't look anything like a 13:00low guy in Beijing!

Lagat had to run two 5000s and three 1500s at OT to qualify for Bejing. Those races may have caused an injury. He only has to run one race at USAT&F to qualify for Berlin.
