  • Should Webb Retire?

Based on the fact that his "performance when it counts" ability in nowhere to be found, should he bow out? If I were his sponser, I would have booted him last year, and that would have been carrying him too long!

Why in the world should he retire if he still wants to run? Lots of guys who have never run nearly as fast and have never performed well in crucial competitions keep running and being sponsored (I don't want to start such a negative list but it would be a long one!)

Webb should retire just because people are disappointed in him? WTF?!?

The question assumes that he'll have a poor racing season, and that assumption is based on a terrible race at Reebok. As we've discussed on an earlier thread, we don't know if that result occurred due to illness, an off-day, or heavy training volume with his plan being to peak in August.
My guess is that he'll run much better at Pre although, if his training is geared towards a peak in August, he may not win and may not have (for him) a fast time.

My sense is that it wasn't illness or an off day...he didn't look right....he looked over weight, out of shape. It's just a feeling, and I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's not going to do much this season. I agree with those who have suggested he needs change. Maybe he should go to Mammoth and train with Terrence Mahon.

                  Retire?

                  I think he's making a decent living.

Are you the best in the world at what you do?

If not, why dont you quit?

                  He is what he is.

Yes. Webb is past his prime. His best days were in high school.

                      Mike, you are being childish.

If you need attention this badly maybe you should consider professional help.

So here is a new question: do you people think that Mike should seek professional help for his immature behavior?

It depends how old he is and his IQ level. Either could exonerate him.

IQ level isnt a basis for exoneration.

                          Just confirmation.

It exonerates him from being an ass.

i don't think he should retire but i do think the rest of us track fans ought to expect alot less from him, perhaps achange of coach might help.talk about in consistency, also a failure to meet his own expectations. a definite need for mental toughness
