  • NCAA Men's Long Jump

Now that the NCAA T&F Committee added defending champion Ngoni Makusha of Florida State to the field, will it be a shoe in for Makusha or is there someone else waiting to pop off a big jump @ next week's NCAA Champs?

Your thoughts on the list of declared entrants (including Makusha...I know this listing may change):

Well, he did not make the meet until the last consideration point, so it seems like he should not be a sure bet.

I ma say be on the watch for the (3) Arkansas jumpers, with Bailey being the main culprit.

There are a dozen guys there who have demonstrated capability to go over 8 meters. could hinge on who hits the board and/or gets a favorable/unfavorable wind

I agree that there are a number of jumpers who could take this, and hitting the board /getting steps down will be key. I will pick Makusha since he has serious big meet experience(Oly's and NCAA last year).

All due respect, getting steps down and hitting the board, is a prerequiste for any meet, this meet no different.

Yes, but the point is that there's several guys who could win, and LUCK does play a role in whether the wind and other conditions help or hinder one's approach. One run with the right speed, penultimate step, takeoff, landing . . . with the right wind that gets the jumper all of the board and BAM, the winning jump. Could be any of several.
