  • How do you see Hicham El GUERROUJ's 1500m in Athens?...

If, at last, he wants to get Gold, I think he
will have to run like a rabbit.
Faster than a rabbit, of course, leading a
terrible Kenyan armada, a super French talent,
from the beginning to the end of the 1500m.
Too much pressure on him to overcome the
    malediction?...

Hmmmmm..... Faster than a rabbit? Perhaps as fast as an ostrich, horse, cougar, cheetah, gazelle, or...? Noah's Ark aside, it may suffice simply to be as fast as El G himself.

I simply imagine HG will be the hunted...
And whatever his very glorious pedigree is, the
charm of an Olympic final is that from now on,
then, nothing that existed before the race
      matters anymore.

I see an Olympic gold medal in Hicham's near future. The third time's the charm. I don't think there will be an American in the men's 1,500 final in Athens.

I bet more than one American man runs the the last round of the 1500 in Athens. Any takers?

Barring any injuries or tired legs (from 1,500m speed training and 5k strength training), I don t see why El G can t run with the best of this years finalists and try hard to bring home the gold - assuming with all probability that he makes the finals. I saw something in El G during the 5 000m in Paris that I have not seen in a long while: an all-out gutsy fight to the finish.

There were no rabbits in Paris, and he took some of the pacing duties near the end when he upped the pace with 800m remaining. I think the 5 000m made him a "let s do this!" type of athlete. I think he will be conservative and kick with both speed and strength when moves are made and he is locked into position to challenge for the medal.

                2004 Olympic 1500 Final

                400m in 58.9
                800m in 1:58.1
                1200m in 2:53.5
                1500m in 3:32.32

El Guerrouj wins in a fierce battle down to the end.

1 American makes the final (won't say who) but he finishes 7th.

Then I had to get back to the "time pod" to visit the 2020 Olympics and watch my son and daughter compete.

I'll bet that the race goes at least 2 seconds faster than that...probably 3:29 and change...

I'll take your bet if you mean the men's final of the 1,500 meters in Athens. I say no American will make that final.

I agree with 5K guy, one American -Webb- in about 5th or 6th place.

My bet is strictly on the time of the 1500 final; I don't expect any Americans to make it to the final. I'm a big roller...say, a beer in at Zurich in '05?

                            I don't see the men's 1,500 final going faster than 3:30.00. I won't bet on it, but that's what I see today.

We've gone on record; now we just have to wait and see.
