Not even a mention (of AJR) on telecast. ?? They need a good stat guy for backup.

Did they ever show Claye at all? While I was watching they just showed the three A&M jumpers (from the usual head-on shot that makes them all look like they're jumping 15 feet).

Did they mention that Saturday was Claye's 18th birthday?

              This kid's absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!

They dropped the ball on this one...tv coverage should ahve given him a mention!

But yet again....it IS the way CBS normally does things....

                Missed this result.

From 15.97m to 17.19m in one year -- twice setting an AJR -- is astonishing by itself. To win the NCAA championship on your first try against such competition is a whole other story all together.

What a great series - 16.99, 17.19, 17.24, almost 17.42-.02. How do you know that it was 17.42, did they measure it (it would have been the last jump, and hence after the competition was over).

I would say with 90% certainty that they "they" who measured it was the wolfman himself.

Due to an unfortunate, unnecessary, errorneous and futile dust-up about handling the belated protest of an unmistakeable foul jump, despite Horizontal Jump Rule 3, which unmistakebly says "It shall be a foul attempt and not measured if: a. b. c. d etc., we were under a mandate to measure but NOT record to the official results sheet every foul jump and wait until there was no immediate protests before proceeding to the next jump.

The rules state a protest must be filed within 30 minutes or can be orally contested Immediately. No one could explain what there was to protest. Video from the stands 30 meters away at an angle is not only useless, it is not allowed as evidence. The combination of a yellow foul strip on the fresh white boards made it extremely difficult to even distinguish the yellow in the glare of the sun.
It was a useless, time consuming exercise. There is no provision in the protest rules covering judgement calls when there is no official officiating evidence such as plasticine or video or electronic foul detectors.
All us grunts can do is grin and bear it and "git 'er dun"
As to gh's surmise, I take the Fifth Amendment.

Claye was defnitely impressive...I'm definitely glad I had several opportunities to witness his performances first-hand.

If he were to jump further than the Open winner it would be a memorable occasion I believe. Has it ever happened in any event before?

You know how young Claye is? Assuming he doesn't turn pro, he'll jump in the NCAA as a teenager three times!
