  • Ostrava 17 June

Startlists are here. Bolt, Robles, Vlasic and Spotakova are among the stars of the meet. I will also pay special attention to the women's HT with Heidler, Wlodarczyk, Hrasnova, Pchelnik and Olympic champion Oksana Menkova. Men's SC, women's 5000 (but will Melkamu really show up just 3 days after that 29:53?) and JT are also looking excellent.

FFS why is Blanka competing. Just been told that's 9 meets so far this year.

          Has she learnt nothing???

She did clear 2.05 at the Olympics, how much better could she have been realistically ?

Outdoors, it was her 4th meet. Last year she had done 6 by the middle of June.

Plus she'll be competing at the weekend with Croatia at the European Cup. Practice makes perfect, I guess.

I'm not critisizing her Olympic jumping at all she just came up against an inspired competitor that day. I'm just scared that she may do the same this year as well.

Blanka is one of my favourite athletes I just want her to win and feel that a few less competitions (And a few less pointless WR attempts) might help.

But that's point, it's assumptions on our part. Maybe competing every week helps her instead of tiring her, or maybe less would indeed be more and she might have broken the WR by now or won Olympic Gold.

It was funny last season....watching a competition and the British commentators said she looked tired and how much competition she had taking part in and that she should take a break, because it's an Olympic year etc. I was laughing so much when they said that...it is fair to say...their observation was to the point. Lets hope she doesn't out do herself this year also...because that German woman..looked good yesterday. Hell, she was close to clearing that bar at 2.09 yesterday.

Maybe you can also find it on a peer to peer streaming website (just do a search on Wednesday) . I know sometimes, I tried watching Eurosports and it's block, saying i'm in wrong part of world to be viewing the program.

PS. Did you notice that Nickel Ashmeade, is listed to run in the 200m. Really think he has a good chance of making JA team in 200m.

Blanka's schedule for this season: http://www.blanka-vlasic.hr/n-en.php?id=393

She wasn't too worried about yesterday defeat in interview which she gave to the national television shortly after end of HJ competition:
"...better prepared jumper won today... ...precise trainings in last three weeks before Thessaloniki exhausted me and I lacked little more explosiveness... ...rivalry between me and Friedrich is good for me and women HJ... ...I'm still far from my top form, main goal is Berlin..." etc. - http://www.sportnet.hr/Vijest.aspx?ID=378476 (in croatian)
