its not a matter of opinion, but getting the job done, which is to present an idea of where the athletes will finish. steve vaitones regularly does the open charts cause no one on the t&fn staff knows what to do with it. they ask, he provides the info. simple solution here would be to have done the same thing.

I was just teasing. You are, seriously, one of THE (in the top 3 at least!) experts on USA RWing!

So I'm hearing that Trevor Barron might be a real talent. His second 5K in Eugene was 11 seconds under the American Junior Record? And he's just 16.

He has a legit shot at a medal at World Youth, could even win the thing if everything goes his way. It won't be long until he owns every US record @ every distance. We'll see how supportive USATF is of the event when we really do have a medal caliber athlete. My guess is he won't get any more support than he is getting now.

I don't think this is what you meant by support. An e-mail that was circulating last night in the walk community:

<<As many of you are aware I applied for a Bye for Trevor a couple months back so that he wouldn't have to go through the 3,000m walk qualifier at the World Youth Trials as he was the only RWer who meet their published standards. But the youth committee turned it down insisting that their qualifying processes be followed necessitating that Trevor compete in Ypsilanti.

However they refused to establish a criteria for what was proof of fitness at the 3,000m distance to be on the USA squad for the
                            10,000m race in Italy.

Trevor flew red-eye back to Pittsburgh after the RWs arriving Monday
morning. His parents then drove him up to Ypsilanti, Michigan for the
World Youth Trials. Tuesday night I got an long email from Bruce
Barron about the Youth Committee's failure to account for Trevor's
                            race.

Originally it was scheduled for Tuesday in conjunction with the
Youth National intermediate and young men's 3,000m RW (Their published
qualifying process). But they wouldn't let him race, informing him that
he had to race in a separate World Youth Trials race - which wasn't on
                            any published schedule.

Trevor ended up competing in a 3,000m RW by himself this morning and
                            walked it in 13:00.93.

Now we are awaiting the official announcement from the Youth Committee
as to who is actually named to the World Youth Team by their selection
                            committee.>>

Word is that they have added Trevor to the team. I haven't seen an official roster yet, but its a reliable source. The Youth Comm, CEO & President were throttled pretty hard by an Olympian over this matter and it looks like it will work out properly. Its amazing that people who cause problems like this are still running USATF.

                              (edit) Official roster posted at:
                              http://www.usatf.org/events/2009/IAAFWo ... roster.asp
Trevor is listed & sanity prevails.
