Any elite talent to him? Or is he less a Viren and more another Matti V, as in Valimaki?
Hurts to say, but no, I don't think he has elite talent (and he started training too late in any case). I think he has a decent chance of eventually breaking into our national elite but alas, that tells more about the current poor state of middle-to-longish-distance track running in Finland than about his talent.

Nice enough javelin comp. Kovals won with 82.47 SB (and a very solid series); Janik second with 81.56 and Pyatnytsya third with the first two 80+ (and first 81+) efforts of his career, ahead of new US champ Hill.

Noted a Matti Viren on the Oslo startlists, and of course my Finnish eyebrows were immediately raised. An heir, perhaps?

preliminary start list's as of june 26th 2009 are up for next weeks meets the villanueva d asq in france on tuesday, which has a very good 10k, and oslo which has some great distance events, although there are not many americans, which weakens the sprints ,due to it probably being to close to nationals.
