  • HSers who could have won NCAA's during their Senior Years

I guess Anna Jelmini has joined a select group by trouncing current NCAA champ D'Andra Carter at USATF nationals in the Discus.

Dallas Long, 1958, shotput. He threw 61' as a prep and the NCAA record was 60' 6".

Using the criterion of actually beating the NCAA champion at the nationals (which was the Jelmini/Carter thread-starter), Robinson qualifies, Martin does not (he lost to NCAA champ Kirk Baptiste).

Similarly, Richards only ran Junior nationals as a prep.

Have to think Ryun would have been tough in 1965.

The example used was of it happening at the nationals, but the premise in the title is broader:-

Will Claye, OU TJer, who graduated in December and enrolled early at OU, finished 2nd at NCAA but had seasonal best 17.01 (?)compared to winning 16.57(?) at NCAA (distances from memory, subject to audit.)

Scott Sellers' 2.27m jump at the indoor high school championships in 2004 would have beaten Manson's indoor mark at the NCAA's. Scott was still a high school junior at the time.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Francena McCorory 400m High school record of 51.93 beat Kineke Alexander's NCAA winning time of 52.16. It happened during the same weekend of the same year and Fran did it on a flat track. I saw that live and it was amazing.

Remarkable performance that has been somewhat understated considering Fran's effort was all on her own.
