  • Banned athlete question (FILIPPIDIS)

Pole Vaulter Konstantinos Filippidis of Greece is supposed to be serving a ban until July 10, 2009, for Etilephrine.

So how is it that he has competed at least 4 times this year, most notably jumping 5.65 at the European Team Championships? :?:

His doping offence, to me, was actually a mistake...he was ill and he had taken a drug which had a non-legal substance in high levels, which I have to mention that is not helpful for his event.... However, he was charged with 2 years....

Actually I think he asked to reduce his penalty for a month in order not to lose the events of June, and as he was tested many times with no problem, the association decided to reduce his penalty for some months. He first competed at the very end of April in clubs championships 5,40m., 5,50m. at military games out of competition..won the ticket for Leiria in mid-May in Edessa in 5,25m. and his next was Leiria, where he was perfect!!! He reminded of the great junior-Filippidis, who in 2005 was trying to set a junior world record!
