Not that Hill has remotely been throwing in the area of the big Scando studs, but it will be interesting to see how he fares against the likes of Pitkämäki and Thorkildsen just vis à vis his recent distances.

So this bunch of stiffs has a composite 4-15 record at Bislett; how come they didn't invite any of the good javelin throwers?!

Blame a bit on Thorkildsen, who was able to practice against the big boys in Bislett competition as he was making his way up the ranks.

            After 3 rounds:

            1 PITKÄMÄKI, Tero FIN 83.67 83.64 80.26 83.67
            2 THORKILDSEN, Andreas NOR 78.72 x 83.15 83.15
            3 WIRKKALA, Teemu FIN 82.33 80.27 80.94 82.33
            4 JANIK, Igor POL 77.50 79.43 - 79.43
            5 VASILEVSKIS, Vadims LAT x x 78.87 78.87
            6 KOVALS, Ainars LAT x 78.80 76.57 78.80
            7 JÄRVENPÄÄ, Tero FIN x x 76.27 76.27
            8 HILL, Chris USA 73.94 75.60 x 75.60
            9 MÜLLER, Stefan SUI 73.36 72.03 x 73.36

Nothing shocking (Thorkildsen isn't at his usual level but knowing the groin injury he's not that much below expected). Nice to see Wirkkala at 82+ almost every comp.

                Pitkämäki going for the jackpot

I think Hill has potential... if only someone taught him how to throw.

Thorkildsen might not throw in Rome. The groin injury/pull has effected his training for a while now. He has avoided throwing longer than 60m in practices.

At Bislett he could not even hold the Jav in his normal way during the run-up due to the sore groin. But since this was Bislett he took all his 6 throws.
