  • Oslo GL Women's 400m- Sanya Richards WL 49.23

    20:05 400m Women Golden League
    RICHARDS, Sanya USA
    LEWIS, Tamsyn AUS
    MONTSHO, Amantle BOT
    WILLIAMS, Sherika JAM
    OHURUOGU, Christine GBR
    GUSCHCHINA, Yulia RUS
    HARGROVE, Monica USA
    DUNN, Debbie

I don't see Ohu winning , hopefully we'll see the best of her in Berlin. I don't see Shericka winning at all, either. In fact, she's second, third, fourth or fifth all the time. I think Sanya will definetely win this one and probably by a big margin. She looks very impressive and fit, never chokes in the circuit, and though she said the jackpot to her is secondary to the WC, she's always been a "go for the money" athlete and her times in Eugene and Berlin suggest that the Golden League is at least a same important goal.

Too bad Novlene is not running today in Oslo. She looked great in the 400 in the Jam trials. 50.21 is real good improvement on her previous SB (50.99), even more considering some bad races over 51. So, running 0.78 faster is definetely a good sign. The thing is, will she be able to keep up improving like that to fight for gold in Berlin?, becuause she's still far from this season Sanya's times (although she beat her in early season). Anyway, I think she's a strong contender for a medal

Another interesting athlete missing today is 21 year old European indoor champion Krivoshapka. Keep an eye on her. She just ran a 50.24 PB and considering it's the first time she runs under 51 outdoor we still don't know her limits. She may be not that experienced, but who knows, might be a threat for a medal in Berlin.

As much as I have little time for Tamsyn Lewis (apologies to her fans), I can't help but feel she's way out of her depth here, and a little sorry for her. A good pay day for her, but would rather see her trying some competitive 400mH races, where she looks to have potential, despite the late switch

Lewis also looks a good candidate for a tight inner lane among this crew, so that won't help her either.

Will be an interesting race, the big O looks better than ever this year, leaner, faster , more confident. I think she had a bit of an injury at euro cup meet, i can't remember i fell asleep just before her race. But hopefully she's over than and will run quick. I still fully expect SR to win, but if TBO is close i think she will definitely have the world champs wrapped up and with a new PB.

Which of course, is actually the best lane, even though most runners just can't get that through their heads. (IMHO)

Ohuruogu had a bit of a cold, which forced her to pull out of a meeting in Milan.

Results page now has them the other way round. Lewis in 1, Gushchina in 8.

This is one of the few decent line ups. Some of the races are complete and utter non events. Don;t the top athletes want to compete/earn a wage/run the circuit?

Possibly they have jet lag and are passing this event?

Agree, but she always seems to start off slow.

TBO inside Sanya Richards and Richards doesn't look happy about it! I expect Richards to win, but if anyone apart from Felix is going to get inside of Richards' head, it's TBO.

49,23 for Richards in another slow-first-200m, sprint-home-to-the-finish race. Pattern developed.

Fantastic run! 49,23 looking really smooth! Her new race tactics seems to work perfectly!

Hargrove inside her did very well too!
