Yes, you can get almost all answers here; however, that is only if anyone actually cares about the question posed. 4x1mile.....boring event.

Richie Harris recalls a race in NZ in Jan/Feb of that year that was set up by Dick Quax (AW coach at the time) and was run on the grass, 5 laps to the mile! Besides Richie (whose 4:00.2 was the fastes split on the team) it included Stan Mavis, Tom Smith and Mark Hunter. The race may have included John Walker (not sure).

Richie owns Bandana Running and Walking in Boise, ID (208-386-9017).

Don't remember the year, but I saw AW run a 4x mile at Florida Relays. Team was Alberto Salazar, Don Clary, Bill McChesney, Rudy Chapa (who doubled back in 10k minutes later in around 29:00.

                  Thanks Bruce,

Maybe someone with the spring issues of T&FN from 1981 can confirm this.

Bill McChesney was still at Oregon in the spring of 1982, according to the a Duck All-Time lists.

I don't believe Chapa was ever AW.

Quite right. Chapa was never with AW. I think he ran for Adidas. By the way the first AW runner was ..... Craig Virgin.

However, he only lasted a year. He wanted to be the next Pre in Eugene and the Hayward crowd was having none of that from a fellow that didn't go to Oregon.

I would have bet Chapa was AW, but in taking a quickie look at the lists, I can't find that he ever made the magazine lists with any club affil after his eligibility was done ('81). Did he hang 'em right away?

Chapa went on to run a 2:11 marathon. He also ran the 1983 NYC marathon in....Adidas. Chapa never ran for AW.
