Athletics: Powell and Gay can't get Bolt out of their minds

Powell was in Australia this summer and addressed a luncheon, along with Hooker. He came across as a very nice guy, my son had his photo taken with him afterwards, was quiet, but approachable.

He is a car guy and does the wrenches on his own modified cars. Said he would have been a mechanic if not a pro athlete. He also handles the wrench work and upgrades on Usain's cars, (and mentioned he needed to upgrade Usains brakes)

He places orders ahead of time with a speed shop in Melbourne which imports from Japan and picks them up on his annual trip.

Got the feeling that was a large part of the reason for coming.

The tension between Powell and Bolt maybe more media hype than reality.

There is no tension(off the track) between both guys. In fact, they are best friends who hang out on ocassion.

Nice topic guys, I'm enjoying reading it all. That's why I keep visiting this site, especially when it includes the biggest and fastest star in the sport. If I didn't like the discussions here I would have gone elsewhere, as easy as that.

You know, many people are Bolt fans, I for one was defending this man during the times where his own countrymen left him for dead. I also know that many people were in awe of this man since he came on the scene. Believe me when i say that many of the posters are just waiting to see what he does next. However, when you have the few that refuse to respect a man of Tyson Gay's talent, it makes some people root against such a great athlete like Bolt. All this talk of Tyson and a host of other just racing for second in my opinion is disrespectful to that man and the others, and if memory serve me right Tyson has beaten Bolt in every single championship race they have faced off in. Many people bring up last season's Reebok meet to prove some point, but neglect to mention the ass whooping Tyson put on him in previous years..IN A CHAMPIONSHIP MEET!!! Why is that???

Is Bolt the odds on favorite?? HELL YES!!! Can Tyson beat him??? HELL YES!!! Do we actually know who will win??? UMMM NO!!! Thats why they run the races.

He was genuinely faster, even taking wind speed, or altitude or whatever anyone wants into account. By all measures he was genuinely a signicantly faster human being. But this year, Bolt is faster than Gay. Genuinely faster. Gay ran 19.58 in warm sunny weather and a nice tailwind. Bolt ran 19.59 in a cold torrential downpour into a slight headwind. Thus, to anyone who knows anything about track races, it is pretty obvious that Bolt is a hell of a lot faster this year than Gay is. THAT is why nobody gives a crap whether Gay was faster than Bolt in 2007 or not. Because it doesn't matter. Because THIS YEAR Bolt is faster. And the only thing that matters is how fast they are this year.

Lol, I don't think that, or I would have said so. My opinion on this topic, as I have apparently failed to make clear, is that this year's results do not prove that Bolt is "MMMMAAAAASSSSSIIIIIVVVEELLLLYYYY" ahead of Tyson, to use your lingo. I am under no allusions as to who will win the 200 in Berlin. I am predicting Bolt by .23-.15. I just want to defend Tyson because he is good enough to deserve it.

Wow!! I just don't understand why people just hold on to Gay being faster than Bolt. What does Bolt have to do break the records every time he steps on the track. I just can't see this, sorry. The child prodigy is just come of age IMO. I think a lot of folks will be crushed along with the loser after Berlin, to the point where they might not even post on here again.
