  • new Berlin formcharts now posted

front page now has new sets of World Champs medal predictions. These represent more of a "group thought" process than the originals and hew closer to boring conventional wisdom.

Try and see if you can find any info. on whether or not the track will be resurfaced.

Saladino over Phillips and Clement out of the medals.

Is Clement going to run 400? A posting in June wrote that he would drop 400. Heats of the 400 are about 9 hours before 400 Hurdle final. Wassup?
        none

Bayer is still "Stefan", there's still no sign of Schwazer and you have Pitkämäki in 1st?! Women's discus is also "interesting"... though surely not an easy event to pick.

Well, it's the Bible, so you're supposed to believe regardless of whether it makes sense :P

Really, though, women's DT doesn't look unreasonable to me. And at least the men's 1500 is no longer as weird as it was.

This summer Berlin will host the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics. From 15 to 23 August 2009, the best athletes compete on a brand new running track in the Olympic Stadium.

On the occasion of the International competition, our long-time German partner BSW Berleburger Schaumstoffwerk GmbH will resurface the blue synthetic top layer of more than 12’000 m2 using CONICA materials. BSW, who also installed the original track surface, expects to finish the application work in the beginning of next year.

“The newly resurfaced track will contribute to promote the performances of the athletes and at the same time, it will help to prevent injuries”, says Karl Meyer, Director at CONICA for many years. He enthusiastically explains: “Having the right surface can easily make a difference of tenths of a second when running, and a difference of centimetres when jumping!”

These predictions seem more plausible than the original set. No way was the US going to sweep the w100h. Even now, the suggestion that they might grab the top two places seems overly optimistic...Then again we probably shouldn't use a word like 'optimistic', which conveys an element of subjectivity, or (God forbid) hope.

The most likely sweep, it seems to me is in the w100m. Jeter appears to be on the decline and VCB is coming into form

This is what I like to hear!

I wonder if they are gonna make it softer than avg or harder than avg? I assume that they'll make it harder than avg, since they know that Usain Bolt is more famous right now than Kenenisa Bekele, so they might as well make it more sprint-friendly than distance friendly in their opinions probly.

Or they could soften lane 1 to appeal more to the distance races

I'm picking Borza in the 800, just so he can dash my hopes ONE MORE TIME!!!

Is Shaheen a total non-factor? P Koech that far off-form?

                          Phillips over SaladMan

And, in my pick of the week, the m400H. They say

                          BJ
                          Isa
                          AT
                          [KC]

                          I say

AT - the wily vet knows how to pull it out
KC - luck will have it that his stride pattern works
BJ - can drop the time as needed

                          Ami Sweep!

but . . . Isa is indeed the Real Deal too. He will run sub-48 and be in contention all the way. KC and BJ will pass him after the last hurdle. How's that for specifics?!

Fraser for bronze in the 200 and she's not even running it in Berlin? Now THAT is talent...

                              Women

I have a really bad feeling that the Big O is going to do it again and my SR will come up short!

You canNOT not pick Barringer for a Steeple medal!!!

                              Vlasic will get her gold.

Jennski won't be able to go at full-speed, and she won't make the podium.
