  • Ohuruogu injured, will miss London GP

She has a bad hammy (picked up in training) and will miss London, but hopes to be okay for the worlds.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/8156545.stm

If she's not 100% fit, I don't see her defending her world title. I think this one is (finally) going to Sanya....

I think she'll have a tough time defending even at 100%...Sanya running extremely well and with much confidence.

      FWIW...

Christine has only beaten Sanya once.

      Granted, it was the Olympics.

      But still only once.

And not to take anything away from the defending Olympic and World Champion because the Big O earned it, but....even in the Olympics I believe the consensus is that Sanya had more to do with that lost than Christine did.

Sanya doesnt need Ohurogo to miss the race in order to win.

The ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD who can beat Sanya, is Sanya.

      I'm just saying.

I hope Christine gets better. I hate injuries and illness.

What is it about GB athletes and injuries???

I can't say I felt that confident about The Big O all season anyway, though I said that last year and look what happened...apparently it's a "low grade injury" and precautionary so maybe she will be alright- 2007 proved that it isn't as if she needs races to get into top shape after all.

But yes, this season is ridiculous. Our injury list always seems worse than most countries but I don't think I've EVER seen it this bad...

which she has done on numerous occasions !!!

i don't think jon was suggesting anything else other than an in form CO is best placed to take advantage of any mistakes or loss of form from Sanya an injured CO doesn't have a chance in hell

Why was I shocked to see Christine on The National Lottery last night? I don't know why, but it seemed a bit wrong for her to be injured and in a race for time for Berlin but still fulfilling meaningless promotional duties...

I agree. It's becoming such a joke now. When people moan about British athletes being injured more than other countries, I've generally said that other countries are the same but this is silly. Practically 50% of our team are injured!

Thank goodness for Idowu and Ennis - that's all I can say.

i wouldn't get too worried about her injury it sounds like a minor thing and she has pulled out more a a precaution than anything else. GP races have never been a priority for her so there is no way she is going to take any risks in events that she feels are rather pointless anyway.

When I have said frequently on a certain British Forum that we lead the world in percentage of top athletes who are injured every year, for as long as I recall, I have been pilloried that all countries have a similar amount of injured athletes and , therefore, I was incorrect,.

I am glad to note that Nevets at long last realises that our training methods or some other magical cause has reduced our fit elite to a good handful.

Most of our top athletes, few enough anyway, spend time and money training abroad and then compete as little as possible , dictated by their coaches presumably,. As partial public servants these days our better athletes seem to overlook that a top athlete has a duty to be fit and on the line; otherwise whats it all about, Alfie.

Its all too depressing to even think of the rather lengthy list of names of talented athletes who cannot stay fit. for even a year.

Rooney got injured and did not compete for the Spring/Summer months, ran a 45.35, and is knackered again apparently.

Nevets , perhaps you will ignore the so called optimistic line taken by Isabre and his pals.!!!

You're probably right but I just don't feel too confident about Ohuruogu and I don't think she's very confident either. Even though she didn't end up running in Luzern and Paris, she has entered more 400m races this year compared to last year when normally she predominantly runs 200m races.

I really can't see Sanya losing in Berlin. She hasn't raced as much on the Grand Prix circuit which must surely help and both of the Williamses are running well. Krivoshapka and Grenot are also knocking on the door of 50sec too...

Has she run more 400s this year?

She's only run at 3 events, hasn't she ? I can only pull up the meeting in France, Oslo and then the UK Champs...

Last year, she must have done a similar amount.

I agree, though, I have little confidence in her at all this year. I'm hoping she's just peaking brilliantly, yet again...
