    Totally agree with both

Much as I try to like O (because I am a committed Anglophile :P ) I just can't muster up alot of anything for her.
Yes it is great how she comes through at big meets-I mean how you do anything but respect her record-but the way she runs and handles herself most of the time just makes me a "nonfan".

I think this year her preparation will fall short-I won't be picking her for a medal.

And yeah I will have major sucking up to do if she wins the damn thing!

i kind of agree but i feel a bit sorry for her she just doesn't come across well. i think she's shy and doesn't really like the attention and it comes across as cold and slightly arrogant. she's very academic and logical and the emotional stuff doesn't seem to register with her but is VERY important for PR these days. she seems to think her job is just to run well but of course there is so much more to it. she had dreadful management at the start but i think it's got better recently and she seems to have relaxed but i would love 1 hour with her to teach her how to give a proper interview.
        i deserve extra credit

I have never heard her interviewed (just read a few snippets in print) and I am sure she is a nice person.

I just have a hard time warming up to an athlete that is so on and off. I get peaking for the big races and all that of course, but she can run so poorly at times. It is maddening to watch. I don't dislike her as an athlete I just feel "meh", And that is a pretty weird feeling for me towards a female athlete with her accomplishments.

(I am sure she would be devastated to know I am not a "fan" so please don't tell her! )

And she certainly doesn't warrant even the tiniest of boos.

Baddeley isn't on the Crystal Palace start-lists and hasn't competed since Ostrava too :?

Benjamin's retirement is a real blow for the 4x400m team especially because Rooney and Bingham have fitness problems. Steele has been a no-show apart from a few races in Australia in March as far as I know.

Our women's 4x400m team will only win a medal if they are all fully fit and Ohu, Sanders and McConnell all have injuries.

I thought our 4x100m girls had a chance of a medal at the beginning of the year but goodness knows what they've been doing this winter.

I'm also awaiting Radcliffe's withdrawal from the Marathon too.

Tim is only 26. I know it must be desperately annoying to have 4 years of inury but "retirement" seems hasty. I suspect he;ll be back for 2012.

It is strange how Brit 400 runners seem to get one good season and then spend the rest of their career trying to avoid injury.

Katherine Merry...2 good season premature retirement.
Donna Fraser 4th in the Olympics and then spent the next 4 years riddled with injury.
Nicola Sanders - riddled with injury.
                Benjamin - one good season.

It must be the weather.

Only Black achieved any longevity and even he spent more than half his career injured.

David Grindley - 1.5 seasons ('92 and start of '93).
                    Iwan Thomas - '96 - '98
                    Derek Redmond - '85 to '87
Ladejo - 94-96 (might have been injured in 95)
                    Wariso - 98
                    Jenkins - 75-6 & 80
                    Caines 2000 -2

I may be being totally unfair on the guy but has any coach ever had as many injury prone athletes as Tony Hadley - Redmond, Ladejo, Benjamin, Sanders, Oyepitan, Mackie? I think I saw that his junior Jordan McGrath pulled a hammy a few weeks back.

I think Tim's major injuries started with an entirely different and experienced coach who had no idea what he was doing. Not that Tony's track is any good but Marlon is never injured :?

There's Tony Lester (who coaches Benjamin, Sanders and Oyepitan) and there's Tony Hadley (who coaches Jordan McGrath and used to coach Redmond & Ladejo). You're lumping the two together to form one big bad coach!

A fair few of Lester's athletes get injured, but he does also have a major positive influence on them too, and transforms them into world class sprinters.

Only thing that bothers me about the big O is her relay legs. she can do what she wants at grand prix meets, its her choice if she wants to earn more money or get big pay-outs for matches against Sanya etc. But seeming to put a half arsed performance in the relay when the rest of the team are really digging in to get a medal and she seems to be happy with the individual gold so why bother with the lesser medal of the relay.

For someone trying to win back some of her doubters she doesn't go about it the best way. I also don't think her interviews this year have been that bad.

As I was writing my reply I was thinking that Tony Hadley didn't sound right but it's been a long day and my brain wasn't working properly.

Having said that it's still a valid point because a large number of Tony Lester's athletes are permanently injured.

Completely agree. I mentioned this to her coach a while back and he replied that relays didn't matter. I didn't get the chance but I'd have liked to reply that they just might matter to the rest of the team when their funding is cut because they faile to medal because of her :x

if we had another couple of 51 sec options I'd happily take her out of the relay altogether.

Seriously? Her coach says relays don't matter?

Wow. I know I am "old school", "old fashioned" and an idealist but running for your country or club or city or school on a relay is a BIG thing.

Well at least she runs unlike our Tyler Christopher, although maybe not running at all is better than a half assed effort.

Poor relay attitude and performances, only running well in big meets and missing those tests (one okay, two maybe, three-WTF?).....

Hey Canadian athletes certainly look hale and hearty next to their British cousins-must be OUR weather!
