  • Andrei Silnov out of WC

not really surprising but such a shame

    http://www.leichtathletik.de/index.php? ... wsID=23315

Silnov was battling achilles injury for quite some time now, but is still not ready to compete in Berlin

i was really looking forward for a Silnov vs Ukhov duel
i'm sure Ivan won't complain though, there's not a great love lost between them

    PS: Lukyanenko is out too

It seems like Silnov just can't stay healthy. When he is over a longer period of time, he is the best in the business.

i agree, he's still the best jumper

      but look at that trend

      2006:healthy/ European champion
      2007:injured
      2008:healthy/Olympic champion
      2009:injured

he just doesn't have much luck at WC years

Why did it have to be an Achilles? Jumpers are rarely the same afterwards. :x
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

He had the achilles operation 3 weeks ago we read.
              News sure travel fast!

So who can threaten Ukhov now? Looks like Rybakov again. There are signs of Baba approaching his former level but will we ever see him at 2.35 again?

Some of these guys need to make a serious move now.

yes, Kajsa Bergqvist was the only top-jumper who came back even better after a serious achilles injury in 2004

Even with her, the statement can be disputed: It is true that she had a greater
consistency after her come-back, but I do not think that her maximal ability
improved (2.08i notwithstanding). Notably, she had her 2.06 PB shortly before
the injury, and could have gone heigher yet in Athens (or the following season).

Edit: I am getting old and confused. 2.06 was in 2003
followed by minor injuries, tendon in 2004.

Kajsa's achilles injury was to her non jumping leg.

Williams and Howard could, but only if they're on their A game...
