What an abomination! The storied SMU track program - winner of three NCAA championships and producer of numerous Olympic medalists - will be eliminated next year. Is this just another unintended consequence of the dreaded Title IX? Partially yes. But also a cowardly and meager attempt to re-channel funds to its powerful (0 for 12 last season!) football program. The decision was made in secrecy and finalized before any actions could be taken by those who care and could attempt to fund & save the program. This is a complete outrage and unfortunately a trend that could take hold in other similar programs. As a member of two of the national championship teams in 1983 and a once proud alum and All American, I am beyond distressed about this decision. Heads up lads, this could be coming to a program dear to you soon. Guess now my only option is to be a loyal supporter of SMU's newly funded women's equestrian team. So that's what Mustang Mania has come to. Atrocious.

Re: SMU eliminates track program
What fire Jim Copeland? How could we even consider that?! This is the same man that has given us five consecutive losing football seasons, driven a potential tournament bound basketball team into a WAC doormat, and begs to move from conference to conference. The guy has been a savior at the Hilltop. Can't wait for the first home equestrian meet - maybe they can use the abandoned steeple chase hurdles...

Re: SMU eliminates track program
>What does Kajsa Bergqvist have to say about that? She is an SMU alum.
It's only the men's program that is being cut, but one would assume she likewise thinks it stinks."Run fast and keep turning left."
